AMD Graphic Cards and its Shocking Performance

    AMD is known for its two products: CPU and GPU. AMD recently launched its 3rd Gen Ryzen Processors which are much faster and powerful than previous generation at same TDP. The Ryzen Processors are becoming more powerful than ever. Similarly AMD is also trying to catch in GPU market and overthrow Nvidia with their new Radeon Graphic cards. AMD launched its new 6000 series graphic card 6900 XT, 6800 XT and 6800.

    AMD Radeon 6000 series and its graphics cards used in Xbox (Series S and X) and PlayStation 5 use AMD’s new architecture RDNA2. This new architecture is up to 54% more performance per watt than its previous architecture RDNA. Further it has massive 128MB Infinity Cache which delivers up to 3.25x the effective bandwidth of 256-bit 16Gbps GDDR6. At the same time it provides lot of power for high resolution gaming with vivid visuals. RDNA2 is based on same 7nm node process but which increased performance and hardware features. It has brought hardware feature like Microsoft DirectX12 Ultimate including DirectX Ray Tracing, Variable Rate Shading Mesh Shaders and Sampler Feedback. It also supports Microsoft Direct Storage API for fast game loading. RDNA2 has doubled the performance than its predecessor.

    The RX 6800 XT was the main focus of the launch which directly competes with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080. It supports 4k 60fps Video format with Memory Speed of 16Gbps.

    Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 vs AMD Radeon RX 6800

    During the launch of RTX 3070, it was expected that RTX 3070 was a bit powerful than RTX 2080 TI. But later performance results showed very little to no change in performance. Considering RTX 3070 and RTX 2080 TI has almost similar performance, RX 6800 may overtake RTX 3070 also.

    These two comparison are most awaited one. But according to AMD’s performance test results, it seems RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080’s performance is almost similar in 4k gaming. The result also showed at 1440p Gaming the RX 6800 XT overtakes RTX 3080 by a good margin.


    Nvidia Geforce RTX 3090 vs AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

    AMD shines in this comparison as well. The Big Navi having same memory size and TDP as 6800 XT outperformed RTX 3090 in 4k gaming by a very little margin. With considering price of almost $500 less than RTX 3090, RX 6900 XT is a great value for money.

    Rage Mode and AMD Smart Access Memory


    Rage Mode is a one click overclocking mechanism inbuilt in Radeon Software for 6000 series Graphic cards.  Also AMD Smart Access Memory is also the reason how AMD is achieving those performance. With both AMD’s 5000 series CPU and 6000 series GPU working in a single system, they can both share same GPU memory and boost the performance is some games up to 13%.


    Ultimate Latency Reduction Technology

    This is newly introduced AMD technology to reduce game. AMD software now features two modes: AMD FreeSyncTM +AMD RadeonTM Anti-Lag and AMD FreeSyncTM +AMD RadeonTM Boost. With Both the features ON, The latency could be reduced up to 37%.

    AMD FidelityFX and DirectX12 Ultimate


    Now AMD has introduced its own Ray Tracing feature just like in Nvidia. But now for the first time AMD RDNA2 features hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing. With Ray Tracing ON, the visuals are crisp and has mode shadow and true color details. Due to this it provides more natural looking scenes. Also it uses DirectX 12 Ultimate to optimize Denoiser and Variable Rate Shading algorithm that can adapt image quality based upon luminous and motion. Likewise with features like Contrast adaptive Sharpening and Ambient Occlusion, any object’s detail is more sharpened to visually please the user and expose the appearance objects based on exposure and light.

    Should you Buy AMD Graphic Cards?


    According to the AMD test results, It clearly shows that AMD outperformed Nvidia in 4k and 1440p Gaming. As most of the gamers and content creators work 4k or lesser resolution. So from a consumer perspective AMD can be a better choice. But For AI, Machine Learning and running neural networks with image processing algorithms NVidia’s Cuda Cores comes in handy. Since AMD GPU’s have still not hit the market, actual gaming comparison and performance tests in real world may take few days.
